A tree that has endured the desert dryness and the ravages of a hurricane is a metaphor for our endurance through the trials of life. Amazingly, I began this painting a week before the Caribbean hurricane, Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico. Shortly thereafter I went to Puerto Rico and saw the “Champion Tree” in El Yunque National Forest that had withstood a hurricane in the 1920s as well as Hurricane Maria.
